Movements

The Civil Rights Movement and Black Power movement both fought racism in the 1960s. Civil Rights focused on ending segregation through nonviolence, law, and legislation, while Black Power emphasized racial pride, self-defense, and community control. Together, they expanded opportunities for African Americans.
