Negro Leagues All-Stars. This year is the 100 year Anniversary of Negro League Baseball (1920). It would be 27 years before Jackie Robinson would break the color line and be drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. But The Major Leagues didn't integrate baseball because they gave fair treatment toward Black ball players; they integrated for two reasons:
1. They wanted to win - Black ball players brought speed and athleticism to the Majors they had not seen before.
2. (And maybe more importantly) the Major Leagues wanted the ticket sales from the large Black audiences who came to see the Black ball players in the Major League games. Coincidentally the integration of the Major Leagues was the downfall of the Negro Leagues; this is a prime example of how integration had an adverse effect on the black community.
